Samantha Durbin joined CHHS as a Policy Analyst in August 2018 and is currently working for Howard County’s Office of Emergency Management in Ellicott City. Samantha completed an accelerated Bachelor’s/Master’s Program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She received her Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science in 2017 and her Masters of Science in Geography and Environmental Systems in 2018. During her time at UMBC, she researched hurricane activity in the Atlantic Ocean. She analyzed both the scientific and societal impacts of hurricanes and tropical storms which led her to complete Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Recovery courses. Her research showed the complexity of tropical storms and that their destructive power is related to more than just wind speed. She is excited to use her environmental science background in the emergency management field and begin her journey with CHHS.
