Karla Maria Alvarado Diaz, JD, is a graduate of the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor (JD) and was honored with the prestigious CALI Award for Excellence in Counseling and Negotiations. During her legal education, Karla developed expertise in Cybersecurity, Crisis Management, and Dispute Resolution, earning specialties and additional certificates in these areas. She also honed her skills in legal research, litigation support, negotiation, and regulatory compliance.
Currently, Karla serves as a Law & Policy Analyst at the CHHS, working full-time with the District of Columbia (DC) Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (HSEMA).
Prior to law school, Karla graduated summa cum laude from George Mason University with a Bachelor in Criminology, Law, and Society, and a minor in Legal Studies. Before entering GMU, she began her academic career at Northern Virginia Community College, where her field of study was Political Science and Criminal Justice.
Karla’s professional experience includes working as an intern at an Immigration Law firm, where she was quickly promoted to a law clerk, gaining valuable experience in a firm setting. She has also worked as an extern at the Maryland Department of Public Health, conducting community outreach and research.
Beyond her professional work, Karla is dedicated to mentorship and leadership in the legal community where frequently helps and connects with aspiring law students to offer guidance and support during their law school application process.
