Ian Hamilton joined CHHS as a policy analyst in July 2018. He received a B.A in Criminal Justice & Sociology from Towson University in 2015 and a M.S. in Administration, Planning, & Policy of Emergency Health Services from the University of Maryland – Baltimore County (UMBC) in 2018. Ian had also obtained a Graduate Certificate in Emergency Management from UMBC. During his undergraduate studies, Ian worked as a HAZMAT technician conducting emergency remediation & HAZMAT response throughout the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area for ACV Enviro. During his graduate studies, Ian served as an intern with the Maryland Emergency Management Agency within the Opioid Operational Command Center as well as serving with the Disaster Action Team (DAT) of Central Maryland’s Chapter American Red Cross in various roles from community preparedness, sheltering/mass care, and logistics, to damage assessment.
Prior to joining CHHS, Ian worked with the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Office of Response and Recovery in planning and disaster operations in response to Hurricane’s Joaquin and Matthew. Most recently, Ian served with the Federal Emergency Management Agency as a Disaster Recovery Center Manager in Key West, FL in response to Hurricane Irma. Mr. Hamilton is experienced in Incident Command System (ICS), National Incident Management System (NIMS), incident action planning (IAP) development, hazard mitigation planning, Threat and Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (THIRA) planning, Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) compliant exercises and Continuity of Operations (COOP) planning.
In his current role, Ian is working with Prince George’s County Office of Emergency Management and partner stakeholders in developing a pre-disaster recovery plan as well as updating their Emergency Operations Plan (EOP). Ian also supports coordinating efforts and activations within the Prince George’s County Emergency Operations Center when needed.
