Senior Policy Analyst Vernon Herron Cautions Against Impulsive Police Communication Changes

CHHS Senior Policy Analyst Vernon Herron was interviewed by Mother Jones about the Boston Police reaction to the wide publication of information disseminated over police scanners during the Boston bombing situation. Herron explained that it would be possible to limit public access to the information over scanners through encryption but that it might come at the cost of interoperability and cautioned that not being able to communicate with neighboring jurisdictions could be a greater harm than allowing public access to scanner information.
