Private Sector Implementation of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework Encouraged

CHHS Senior Law and Policy Analyst Markus Rauschecker was published in the Summer 2014 edition of United States Cybersecurity Magazine. Rauschecker’s article “Thinking Ahead – Implementing the NIST Cybersecurity Framework to Protect from Potential Legal Liability” explored Obama’s Executive Order 13636 – Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity and the attempt to get private sector companies to implement the best practices framework outlined by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

Without legislation companies cannot be forced to adopt specific policies but the government has provided incentives and companies looking to protect their own interests are encouraged to improve cybersecurity. Read the full publication, here.
