Several CHHS staff members, including CHHS Senior Law and Policy Analyst Clark Lee, were involved in the development and evaluation of the Montgomery County Cities Readiness Initiative Closed Points of Dispensing (POD) Partners Tabletop Exercise on February 24, 2015, in Silver Spring, Md. Sponsored by the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Services and the Maryland Emergency Response System of the National Capital Region, this exercise brought together representatives from local public health agencies, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities to discuss key planning issues related to Closed PODs that are likely to arise during a public health emergency in Montgomery County, Md.

The CHHS Exercise and Training team built upon the tabletop discussions by sponsoring a Closed POD full-scale exercise in late April. The exercise tested the set-up and distribution of medication to more than 60 Closed POD partners, specifically local nursing homes and assisted living facilities. CHHS staff members have been heavily involved in Montgomery County’s emergency medical countermeasure dispensing and distribution planning efforts since 2010.
