On February 12, 2015, CHHS Senior Policy Analyst Eric Oddo facilitated a tabletop exercise for the District of Columbia’s Department of Forensic Sciences. The discussion-based exercise helped City employees from the Forensic Science Laboratory Division, the Public Health Laboratory Division, and the Crime Scene Sciences Division, talk through Continuity of Operations (COOP) planning roles and responsibilities during a scenario involving a mock flood and extended loss of power to the City’s Consolidated Forensic Laboratory.

CHHS Exercise and Training staff was also on hand to evaluate the exercise, which followed multiple workshops conducted by CHHS over the past year that brought together stakeholders to draft the Department’s COOP policies and procedures. The process has better equipped personnel and leadership to continue critical forensics functions in the event of a prolonged emergency.
