This week, CHHS exercised Continuity of Operations plans that they created for municipalities in Montgomery County as well as the Montgomery County side of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission.

These exercises were the product of a contract held by the Center to produce more than 50 COOP plans for the cities of Gaithersburg, Rockville, Takoma Park, the Village of Chevy Chase and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission.

The Center put together three tabletop exercises that provided the Municipalities and the M-NCPPC with an opportunity to test their COOP plans as well as to observe the way that the other organizations were using their plans to respond to emergencies.

At every exercise attendees provided feedback that will be used by CHHS personnel to create after action reports for each group highlighting ways in which use of the COOP plans could be improved as well as addressing any gaps that were identified in their planning process. This feedback will also be used to improve the COOP plans before delivering them to the respective organizations. In all, more than 100 officials represented their municipality/organization at the three exercises.
